Tracing Boards are used in the vast majority of Lodges to help illustrate lectures from the various degrees. Many beautiful and historic examples exists. Some can be seen here. Orginally designs were drawn on the floor each time, usually by the Tyler, but eventually other materials came to be used. A short history of tracing boards can be read here.
